Discover Historic Gardner's
Basin
A Hidden Gem on Atlantic City's Back Bay
Just a few minutes from the excitement of the Boardwalk lies one of Atlantic City's most charming waterfront destinations—Historic Gardner's Basin. Nestled along the peaceful Back Bay, this picturesque village offers visitors a chance to experience another side of Atlantic City, where maritime history, waterfront dining, and unforgettable views come together.
Things to See and Do
🐬 Dolphin-Watching & Sightseeing Cruises
Set sail from the marina aboard a sightseeing or dolphin-watching cruise. It's one of the best ways to enjoy spectacular views of the Atlantic City skyline while learning about the city's colorful maritime history.
🎣 Fishing Adventures
Whether you're an experienced angler or trying it for the first time, Gardner's Basin is home to popular fishing charters that head into the Back Bays and nearby ocean waters in search of flounder and other local catches.
🐠 Atlantic City Aquarium
The beautifully renovated Atlantic City Aquarium once again welcomes visitors with interactive exhibits, colorful marine life, and educational displays highlighting the rich ecosystem of New Jersey's coastal waters. It's a favorite stop for families and children of all ages.
🍳 Waterfront Dining Start your day with breakfast overlooking the water at Gilchrist Restaurant, famous for its legendary blueberry hotcakes, or enjoy lunch or dinner at Back Bay Ale House, where casual dining, fresh seafood, and panoramic bay views create a true Jersey Shore experience.
A Rich Maritime Heritage
Long before Atlantic City became known for its casinos and Boardwalk, Gardner's Basin was a thriving shipbuilding and fishing community. During the Prohibition era, the area was famous for Coast Guard patrols and rum-running adventures, and today it preserves that fascinatingmaritime heritage while offering visitors a peaceful waterfront retreat.

A True Atlantic City Tradition:
White House Submarine Shop

No visit to Atlantic City is complete without a stop at the legendary White House Sub Shop. Since opening its doors in 1946, this family-owned landmark on Arctic Avenue has become one of the most famous sandwich shops in America, drawing everyone from local families to celebrities and presidents.
Over the years, the walls of the restaurant have filled with photographs of famous guests, including Frank Sinatra, Joe DiMaggio, Dr. J, and countless entertainers who made Atlantic City a regular stop. One of the shop's most famous stories dates back to August 30, 1964, when The Beatles performed at Convention Hall. After the concert, the band enjoyed a giant White House submarine sandwich delivered to their hotel suite—a piece of Atlantic City history still celebrated today.
